I show my new work “I loved my wife (killing children is good for the economy)” in a lovely exhibition space at the Botanique, Brussels.
This is also the launch of my new book, published by Lecturis. It will be a real gem!
The prototype won the Unseen Dummy Award 2016 in Amsterdam, was shortlisted in Kassel, got a jury recommendation in Barcelona and was finalist in Riga.
The opening of the exhibition is on the 1st of march 2017, from 18h00 until 21h00. Everyone is welcome! Free entrance!
If you are curious for how i will present the works, come and see. I will be there answer your questions and sign books!
The other exhibition at Botanique is the great Carl De Keyzer, magnum photographer, showing his two series Before the flood and Higher Ground.
You can visit the exhibition from 2nd of march until 2nd of april, every day except monday and tuesday from 12h00 until 20h00, free entrance.

2016.08.22 I participate in a group exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan. “In 2016 Japan and Belgium celebrate 150 years of cultural and diplomatic relations. The city of Kanazawa, sister city of Ghent, wants to bring together leading artists from Ghent and Japan in an exhibition in the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa. Due to budget restraints, the selection is limited to 2D work. From the long list of artists proposed by us to our colleagues in Japan, your work was selected for participation in the exhibition together with 15 others.

2016.03.24 Sometimes it is time for something completely different. So here it is: a glimpse of my new photographic research project “swimming taco salad”.
Feeling a bit naked though: the new curator on Democratic Jungle, wrote an article about it even though my project is still under development.
A small selection of works is included in the article, and I am continuing with reflecting about possible installations, writing texts and finding people to talk about it.
It started in 2014 combining a growing interest in digital media and abstraction.

2016. I am continuing working on a project on Antwerp, being selected as one of the city photographers of Antwerp for the year 2015-2016. In collaboration with Museum aan de Stroom (MAS) and Roger Szmulewicz of Gallery 51.

Cover De Adelaar van Benidorm
Dit grote boek is een bundeling van honderd bijdragen over bijnamen in de sport. Van de Kannibaal tot wielrenner Kalle ‘The Estonian Emperor’ Kritt, van zwemmer Michael Phelps – The Baltimore Bullet – tot schaker Bobby Fischer alias Bobby Bananas. Het is net uitgegeven bij Houtekiet en vormgegeven door de schitterende Oliver Ibsen.
Ik werd ook gevraagd een bijdrage te leveren. Mijn keuze: de buffalo’s van AA Gent en de verhuis naar de nieuwe arena. Mijn bijdrage: 5 pagina’s, 5 foto’s, één reflectie.
Andere bijdragen komen o.a. van Fabian Cancellara, Peter Vandermeersch, Ariël Jacobs, Brecht Vandenbroucke, Rik Torfs, Paul Baeten Gronda, Jean Paul Van Bendegem, Gella Vandecaveye, Freek de Jonge, Patrick Goots, Tony Martin en vele anderen.

Together with Annelies De Mey I am having a duo show at 44 Gallery, Bruges, Belgium.
The exhibition entitled “appearances” is a reduced reprise of the large exhibition at CCHA (Hasselt) earlier this year.
The exhibitions runs from 6 to 28 September and you are all very welcome!
The official opening in presence of the artists is on sunday, september 7th, at 16h.
I am showing a selection of the series “Today is not a lucky day for you”.
Annelies had exhibition at the Museum of Photography, Antwerp and at Contretype Brussels. She also teaches at the School of Arts (Ghent).

Afmetingen 22 x 28 cm, 24 pagina’s, 15 foto’s, offset gedrukt.
Een beperkte oplage van 250 exemplaren, met nummers 1 t/e/m 69 als collector’s edition.
De collector’s editie is speciaal verpakt in een gezeefdrukte stijve schuifhoes en bevat in een extra map een hoge kwaliteit print van een discotheek die niet in de gewone editie zit.
De prijs van de normale editie is 30 euro, de speciale editie komt op 100 euro.

To the occasion of the exhibition Night Vision on the Belgian legendary dance music, Dieter De Lathauwer has published a special book with a selection of 15 images from his series Nightlife; on the (dis)integration of the discotheque in the landscape.
24 pages, dimensions are 22 x 28cm and it contains 15 images. Offset printed.
It is an edition of only 250 copies, of which number 1 to 69 are a special collector’s edition.
This collector’s edition comes in a special slipcase and with a limited edition photographic print in a holder. All signed and numbered. The print is of an image not contained in the regular edition.
Normal edition is 30 euro. Collector’s edition 100 euro.

Dieter De Lathauwer stelt met Nightlife de ‘buitenkanten’ van dancings letterlijk in het daglicht.
Zijn fotografie flirt met de documentaire stijl, maar vloeit door zijn doorgedreven koelbloedigheid over in mysterie. De Lathauwer tuurt graag in liminale plekken die hun bestemming hebben verloren. Met een ongemeen scherpe lens voor de kwetsbaarheid van de plek. In Nightlife mag dans dan dé bestemming zijn, de aantrekkingskracht ligt in het clandestiene. De ‘geheimzucht’ besloten in de architecturale inbedding van de dancings in een nietsvermoedende stadskom, doet het besef groeien, niet alleen van een apart cultureel erfgoed in wording, maar ook van een harde kern van deze reeks: dat het dansen zelf, zoals de dood, ondanks die nachtelijke ‘buitenpositie’, onafscheidelijk is van het alledaagse leven. De Lathauwer geeft ons de indruk dat er een essentie bestaat die we niet met blote oog kunnen zien.
Die indruk is onuitwisbaar. En ontroerend.

For the past decades, the Belgian rock scene has had its fair share of (in)famous photographers. The exhibition “Night Vision. Cameras Ready, Prepare to Flash.” wants to pay tribute to that handful of photographers who had to good sense to explore the Belgian nightlife scene – years before digital photography came along and people just wanted to tag their friends on Facebook.

Voor de Summer of Photography organiseerde Bozar een fotowedstrijd rond landschappen. De eerste prijs gaat naar de Gentse fotograaf Dieter De Lathauwer.
De eerste prijs ging naar Dieter De Lathauwer, die foto’s koos uit verschillende reeksen. Op het eerste gezicht zijn het idyllische rotsformaties. Maar elke foto bevat kleine elementen die subtiel verwijzen naar menselijke en natuurlijke processen die het landschap doorheen de geschiedenis getekend hebben.
